INTRODUCTION
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Imagine having a small CD player on your screen that plays most
standard NT/PT/ST sound tracker music modules! The player would
even allow 'dropping' the icon for your favorite song on it,
automatically loading it, then beginning playback. 'MusicBox'
does just that! 'MusicBox' is a graphical 'APPWINDOW' music
module player.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
FEATURES
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------
Standard features include:
--------------------------
o - Multitasks.
o - Uses standard INTUITION interfaces.
-------------------------
Special features include:
-------------------------
o - Uses the 'SOFTCONFIG' environment.
--------------------------
Programs features include:
--------------------------
o - The player's window resembles a standard CD player.
o - Plays standard NT/ST/PT sound tracker music modules.
o - Playback features include: PLAY, RESTART, PAUSE, RESUME, STOP
and EJECT.
o - Uses an APPWINDOW: icons for sound tracker music modules can
be -dropped- onto the player's window to begin playback.
o - Has real time 'synthesized' elapsed time playback timer.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
USING MUSICBOX
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------
Getting Started:
----------------
You can start 'MusicBox' from one of the supplied icons, or from
the CLI/ Shell by using:
>Run MusicBox
... if you specify the name of the music module to load, 'MusicBox'
will load (if it exists) then begin playback.
(Please refer to the online help file for more information.)
--------
Options:
--------
The following options are available from the CLI/ Shell.
-x<value> ..... Window (CD player's) X screen position.
-x<value> ..... Window (CD player's) Y screen position.
(For information on 'TOOLTYPES' please refer to the online help file.)
----------------
Pull-Down Menus:
----------------
Project Menu:
-------------

Quit .......... Exit 'MusicBox'.
Music Menu:
-----------
Start ......... Start/ Restart music module playback.
Pause ......... Pause/ UnPause playback.
Stop .......... Stop playback.
Eject ......... Eject current NT/PT/ST music module.
Special Menu:
-------------
Move Player ... Move player anywhere on the screen.
--------------
Playing Songs:
--------------
'MusicBox' will only play NT/PT/ST type music modules or '.mod'
songs. If a module does not play correctly, load then re-save it
using the most recent version of 'ProTracker'. Other music formats
including MED & 3SM are not supported.
There will only be one copy of 'MusicBox' running in memory at
at any given time. This is due to the fact that 'MusicBox' could
allocate all four sound channels, thereby causing playback problems
if more than one copy is playing modules simultaneously.
The Amiga has four seperate sound channels. If 'MusicBox' is
playing a module you should not attempt to play sounds or other
music modules using other programs. If you must use another module
player, or play a sound file, while 'MusicBox' is playing back a
module, PAUSE the current module, then when your done, RESTART it.
You can begin module playback by:
o - Using 'Run MusicBox <module>' from the CLI/ Shell.
o - Dragging -n- dropping the icon for a module onto the 'MusicBox'
window (CD Player).
o - Double clicking on an icon that specifies the name of a module
or uses the 'SONG=' tooltype to specify the module name.
... dragging -n- dropping the icon onto the CD player is the preferred
option!
'MusicBox' does not support 'activating' multiple modules before
starting 'MusicBox' thereby create a juke-box type environment.
This feature will be supported in a future release.
--------
Warning:
--------
Some sound tracker music modules were created with versions of
'ProTracker' that contained a 'bug' in the save module routine.
These modules contain a odd sized data block and can cause
memory corruption if/ when loaded with 'MusicBox'. This is also
true when loaded with other music module players! The 'bug'
has been corrected, however, there are still many modules that
might contain this problem. Load the music module(s) in question
using the most recent verion of 'ProTracker', then resave them.
This should alleviate the problem. If you've got the extra time:
it's better to be safe than sorry!
-----------------------
Software Configuration:
-----------------------
The following variables (flags) are used:
SCREEN TO FRONT
USE PUBLIC SCREEN
(Please refer to the help file(s) for 'SoftConfig' for more information.)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
FOR ADVANCED USERS
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------
Playing Modules:
----------------
You can place all your music modules in one drawer, then using
the WORKBENCH pull-down menu option "Window/Show/All Files",
produce icons for all modules within the drawer. Now, drag
the icon for the module you want to listen to, dropping it,
onto the 'MusicBox' window (the CD player).
-----------
Final Note:
-----------
'FKEY' can be used to 'launch' this program via pre-determined
keystroke(s).
